And in MEANWHILE… we say farewell to Ian Gibson.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Danger Street
Issue 12
DC Comics Black Label
Script – Tom King
Art – Jorge Fornés
Colours – Dave Stewart
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology – Danger Street #12 (Link)
It all ends here! Will the Outsiders be accepted by society? The Green Team finally get what they deserve? The sky be saved from falling? All of this and more as Lady Cop closes the case on the murders of Danger Street. You’ll have to read it to believe it!
Danger Street ends its excellent run with this issue and deserves to bow out as my comic of the week. This series has been a joy to read and further cements Tom King as one of my favourite writers. I hope Tom continues to tap in to the depths of DC characters for the next 12 issue series, and I would love to see him bring back Blue Devil. If you missed this series I highly recommend you pick it up in trade form.
Damn Them All
Issue 11
BOOM! Studios
Script – Simon Spurrier
Art – Charlie Adlard
Colours – Daniel Silva De Carvalho and Sofie Dodgson
Letters – Jim Campbell
Buy digitally on Comixology – Damn Them All #11 (Link)
In a macabre kaleidoscope of soul-seeking hallucinations, Ellie takes a theological hammer to the idea of satan, confronting her mind’s interpretation of the absent and cruel Creator.
If Ellie can find some internal salvation in all this, it might give her an edge against Cillian and his hivemind.
Regardless, she’s going to discover something shocking about Alfie’s fate…
I can’t believe more of you aren’t reading this. This builds on all the interesting stuff Spurrier was doing on Hellblazer and doubles down. I love it when comics challenge the status quo of Great Britain and this book is really shining a light on the bad stuff we face as a nation. Adlard is also bringing some of his best work to the title and I really hope next issue is not the last we see of Ellie and co.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Issue 9
Marvel Comics
Script – Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly
Art – Kev Walker and Walden Wong
Colours – Matt Hollingsworth
Letters – Cory Petit
Buy digitally on Comixology – Guardians of the Galaxy #9 (Link)
MANTIS’ MISSION? EARTH! The Guardians of the Galaxy have all had to change and adapt since the Grootfall began but none more than Mantis. What fractured Mantis, and what secrets has she been keeping from the team? It’s time to put the past to bed, and there’s only one thing that can help the Guardians do it: an INFINITY STONE!
LEGACY #189
This series has grown over it’s run, twisting a turning like one of Groot’s tendrils. With only one regular issue and an annual to wrap up the story, I’m excited to see where it goes. Walkers are is nothing short of stunning and one of the main reasons I picked this book up, but the story has kept me engaged and concerned for the fates of the team.
The Immortal Thor
Issue 5
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Martín Cóccolo
Colours – Matt Wilson
Letters – Joe Sabino
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Immortal Thor #5 (Link)
THE ALL-NEW THOR CORPS! Toranos has returned—and to face him, the King of Asgard has gathered his army. But if even an army of storm gods could not stop the Elder God of Thunder…what then? This is the story of THE IMMORTAL THOR…and the battle that will define him.
LEGACY #766
This cover promises so much, with the return of the Thor Corps. Great to see Storm and Beta Ray featuring prominently. Much like Immortal Hulk this is shaping up in to a legendary run. I hope we also get a Thor Corps miniseries too.
X-Men: Red
Issue 18
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Yıldıray Çınar
Colours – Federico Blee
Letters – Ariana Maher
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men: Red #18 (Link)
FINAL BATTLE! Their armies have clashed—and torn a world apart. Now, finally, the two war leaders meet. Storm versus Genesis for the fate of the Red Planet—as the planet itself fights alongside them! Will Planet Arakko survive? And more—is the secret dream of En Sabah Nur about to come true…?
FINAL ISSUE
Al Ewing wraps up his run on this book, which has been phenomenal. This is the best Storm has been in a long time and I’m glad he is still wring for her in The Immortal Thor (see above) and the upcoming Resurrection of Magneto miniseries. I’d love to see Al take a crack at a Captain Britain book in the future.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:

Farewell Ian Gibson
The team at Geeky Brummie is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of legendary British artist Ian Gibson.
With a career spanning half a century, he drew many of 2000 AD’s most distinctive and iconic stories, and is most notable for his work on ‘The Ballad of Halo Jones’ with Alan Moore and ‘Robo-Hunter’ with John Wagner.
As well as 2000AD, Ian worked on some fantastic American comics including Mister Miracle for DC and Steed and Mrs. Peel for Eclipse. Ian’s last published work was Lifeboat. Lifeboat was published by The77 Publication and reached its Kickstarter goal in only 12 minutes. The77 Publication posted on their Kickstarter comments page, following the announcement of Ian’s passing that ‘Ian has left us with his script for Book 2 and 3 and his wishes that we take his pencils and make them a reality.’
Ian’s art was something special and distinctive and always looked incredible. His passing is a massive blow to the comic book community and he will be greatly missed by many. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to all of Ian’s family and friends.
