The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Howard The Duck
Our Pull List this week features a more manageable 7 new comics. Our Comic of the Week title is Howard The Duck from Marvel Comics. The other 3 comics on the main pull list are published by DC Comics and Image Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes just 4 comics from DC Comics, Image Comics, Vault Comics and Dark Horse Comics. And MEANWHILE… get ready for the holidays with 2000AD festive jumpers.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Howard The Duck
Issue 1 (One-Shot)
Marvel Comics
Script – Chip Zdarsky, Daniel Kibblesmith and Merritt Kopas
Art – Joe Quinones, Annie Wu, Will Robson and Jordan Gibson
Colours – Stacey Lee, Ian Herring and Pete Pantazis
Letters – Travis Lanham
Buy digitally on Comixology – Howard The Duck #1 (Link)
CHIP ZDARSKY, JOE QUINONES & FRIENDS HELP HOWARD CELEBRATE HIS 50TH ANNIVERSARY IN THIS ALL-NEW ONE-SHOT! Meet Howard. He’s a hard-boiled P.I. with problems by the duckload. But a cosmic, all-seeing friend(?) known as the Peeper(!) is giving him a chance to see what his life COULD be! The joys he COULD have! All the ways his life COULD suck way less than it does now! In other words: “Whaugh If?”
What better way to celebrate Howard’s 50th Anniversary. It’s a great line-up of creative talent between the covers, so there should be something for everyone. This one-shot will hopefully open the door to some more Howard comics in the near future.
Power Girl
Issue 3
DC Comics
Script – Leah Williams
Art – Eduardo Pansica and Júlio Ferreira
Colours – Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Letters – Becca Carey
Buy digitally on Comixology – Power Girl #3 (Link)
FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE SECRETS! Looking for answers, Power Girl heads to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude to study up on the mysterious Kryptonian virus sensation sweeping the nation. Turns out…she’s not alone! Something is lurking in the shadows of the Man of Steel’s most secret of headquarters, and it won’t stop its hunt until it’s the last one standing!
This is a fun book. I’ve enjoyed the series to date and the changes made to the character. Still think Streaky should have their own title.
What’s The Furthest Place From Here?
Issue 16
Image Comics
Script – Matthew Rosenberg
Art – Tyler Boss
Colours – Roman Titov and Shycheeks
Letters – Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Buy digitally on Comixology – What’s The Furthest Place From Here #16 (Link)
FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNOW. The City is a utopia. Sid is safe and cared for, surrounded by people who love her. Everything is good.
This is an intricate little puzzle of a book. Just when you think you know where things are going, everything takes a shift and throws you off balance. Another fantastic cover with a variant that is giving me freaky Animals of Farthing Wood vibes. Only a couple of issues to go until the end of this story arc.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:
Batman ’89: Echoes #1
DC Comics
Script – Sam Hamm
Art – Joe Quinones
Colours – Leonardo Ito
Letters – Carlos M. Mangual
Buy digitally from Comixology – Batman ’89: Echoes #1 (Link)
THE BATMAN ’89 SEQUEL ARRIVES, REUNITING SAM HAMM AND JOE QUINONES! You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts! After Harvey Dent’s crusade against Gotham and Batman, the Caped Crusader has disappeared without a trace. In his place, ordinary citizens have taken to the streets to root out crime. As innocents get hurt, the question on everyone’s mind is the same: Where is Batman? Sam Hamm, screenwriter of the 1989 Batman movie, and Joe Quinones reunite for another tale in Gotham!
Local Man #7
Image Comics
Script and Art – Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs
Colours – Felipe Sobreiro and Brad Simpson
Letters – Tony Fleecs
Buy digitally on Comixology – Local Man #7 (Link)
“THE DRY SEASON,” Part Two Local Man gets creative in his search for a murderer, as Inga prepares to bring the superhuman trade to Farmington. On the flip side…while Crossjack attends celebrity weddings and goes on dates with models, Inga is going to save Farmington, one person at a time. But how?
Giant Robot Hellboy #2
Dark Horse Comics
Script – Michael Moreci and Nicholas Eames
Art – Nathan Gooden
Colours – Addison Duke
Letters – Jim Campbell
Buy digitally on Comixology – Giant Robot Hellboy #2 (Link)
While Hellboy’s robotic counterpart battles giant monsters on a faraway island, the scientists running the mission scramble when things at the lab get more than a little out of hand. Inspired by Mignola’s viral-hit pencil drawings from Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook, Giant Robot Hellboy gets his own story in this 3-part miniseries from Mignola and longtime Hellboy artist Duncan Fegredo!
Barbaric: Wrong Kind of Righteous #1
Vault Comics
Script – Michael Moreci and Nicholas Eames
Art – Nathan Gooden
Colours – Addison Duke
Letters – Jim Campbell
Buy digitally on Comixology – Barbaric: Wrong Kind of Righteous #1 (Link)
Double-sized one-shot introducing an all-new talking weapon, Flail!
Best-selling, Gemmell Award-winning Fantasy author Nicholas Eames (Kings of the Wyld) teams up with Michael Moreci, Nathan Gooden, and Julius Ohta to tell the tale of Sir Borys the Righteous Paladin and his trusty, talking Flail, as he enlists the help of Owen, Axe, and Soren on his noble path. There will be virtuous bloodshed! There will be wailing protests! There will be two talking weapons! And there will be wyvern burgers served (for better or worse) with pickles!
Jumpers for Christmas
Now I personally don’t do Christmas jumpers but I know it’s something a lot of people love. So if you are going to do it, then why not do it in style and grab yourself one of the awesome 2000AD inspired designs from the Rebellion webshop. If 2000AD isn’t your groove, you’re in luck as they also do designs inspired by Zombie Army, Sniper Elite and Evil Genius.
