Brilliant artist ANDY MACDONALD (Doctor Strange, Wonder Woman), and adequate writers MARK ELIJAH ROSENBERG (Approaching the Unknown, Year Million) and MATTHEW ROSENBERG (WE’RE TAKING EVERYONE DOWN WITH US, 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank) bring you an ongoing sci-fi adventure about finding purpose, holding onto hope, and really lonely robots.
If Destruction Be Our Lot #1 is an evocative, quietly unsettling sci‑fi debut that uses a post‑human world of robots to explore loneliness, purpose, and hope. Matthew Rosenberg — one of my favourite writers working in comics today — brings his trademark emotional sharpness to the script, working seamlessly with his brother, film director, writer, editor and producer Mark Elijah Rosenberg, to craft an introspective yet darkly funny opening chapter. With expressive artwork, and moody colours, this gives this empty world real weight, while the lettering keeps the humanity alive. Thoughtful, strange, and surprisingly tender, this is a strong and compelling start to Image Comics’ latest ongoing series.

Dog Tag is a fictional story about a very real war. It follows the life and thoughts of Corporal Tom Fuller through the final year of World War II as his service takes him from the invasion of Normandy to the surrender of Japan. Borrowed from real world stories and little known events of the war, Dog Tag asks big questions about the war while focusing on the heroism of the ordinary people who lived and died during the conflict.
Dog Tag #1 lands with the kind of sharp intent you expect when Russell is let loose on power, patriotism and institutional hypocrisy, and it doesn’t disappoint. Russell’s script balances dark satire with genuine moral weight, setting up a story that feels both grimly topical and deeply personal. Holden’s art is a perfect match: clean, expressive, and quietly devastating in its depiction of bodies shaped by war and systems that discard them. Meanwhile, the colours and lettering keep the tone grounded and readable. As a fan of these creators’ past work, this debut feels confident, angry, and uncomfortably relevant..

FCBD at Worlds Apart Birmingham
Last Saturday, 2 May 2026, marked Free Comic Book Day, and as has become tradition, the Geeky Brummie team headed out to Birmingham’s finest comic shop — Worlds Apart Birmingham.
