The Geeky Brummie Pull List with We Only Find Them When They’re Dead
There are four great books out this week and each of them could have made Comic Of The Week but in the end I’ve settled on the second issue of We Only Find Them When They’re Dead. Also out this week are the latest issues of Adventureman, The Dreaming: Waking Hours and The Rise of Ultraman. In Meanwhile… we take a look at some more comic related news stories.
Now on with the comics…

Captain Malik and the crew of the Vihaan II escape from their tyrannical government — and chart a course straight to the first living god they can find! But the only thing more dangerous than what lies ahead of them… is who follows behind them.
This excellent new series from Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo continues this week. We’ve already had some spectacular world building and character development. This is a wonderful new world that promises plenty of mystery and intrigue as the story continues. If you’re looking for some high concept sci-fi with tremendous art you should be climb onboard We Only Find Them When They’re Dead.

On the eve of the rise and return of the greatest evil the world has ever seen, only Claire Connell and her family can save us as the mantle of ADVENTUREMAN passes between generations.
I’m having a blast reading this title. The pulp inspired story is developing nicely with nods back to the origin of Adventureman. The art of course is stellar. Every page pops with life and energy. If you have any love for characters like Doc Savage, The Phantom and other old school adventurers then I highly recommend you pick up this fabulous title.

In the waking world, Ruin and the fallen cherub Jophiel have teamed up with the sorceress Heather After to try to pull Lindy out of the Dreaming, and home to her newborn daughter…but they’d better work fast. Lindy’s mind is rapidly disintegrating as she reckons with thousands of possibilities for who Shakespeare really was, each one alive and walking around in front of her-and if she can’t keep it together, then she’ll be lost forever!
The Dreaming continues to be a wonderful read. G. Willow Wilson has done a great job taking over from Si Spurrier and channels the original series feel. Nick Robles does a beautiful job of conjuring up the world of Shakespeare and continues the run of top class artists to work on The Sandman titles. A worthy successor to the original series and any fans of The Sandman really should be picking this up.

The histories of two worlds, the experiences of two lives, and the destinies of two heroes must reconcile as Ultra and Man struggle to become one – and if they don’t, neither will survive! And as Shin fights for his life, Kiki searches for a way to save him – a search that will bring her one step closer to the dark secret of 1966!
This series got off to a slow start with its first issue but everything is now in place to catapult us into some spectacular adventures. I hope we get to see more of Ultra Q, the mysterious X-Files-esque kaiju hunters whose arc is set in the 1950s. This series has plenty of promise and I’m looking forward to reading it.
Rest In Power
Image Comics President and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane will pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman on the cover of Spawn #311. A rare, black and white version of this tribute cover will be available through comic shops who opt in to receive promotional materials from Diamond Distribution. Expect the black and white variant to be extremely difficult to find.
“Given the limited amount of minority characters in the comic industry today that are considered major Superheroes, I thought it appropriate for one of those well-known heroes (Spawn) to pay tribute to a man who made a lasting impact on helping shape such a strong superhero of color. Chadwick Boseman is a person who honed his skills and then made a career using them. Then he fought a fight against his own body that showed the true spirit of this man. We should all admire the traits Chadwick shared with us. And the inspiration he gave to millions of children around the globe who got to see a strong, meaningful and proud hero that looked like themselves.”
Throg Hops Back
A recent tweet by Thor writer Donny Cates reveals some very interesting news:
This new THOR script I’m writing is maybe my favorite thing I’ve written at Marvel in a long time.
Who knew writing a frog would be so much fun
Yes, that’s right, Donny Cates who brought back Beta Ray Bill to the Thor comic and will soon be bringing back Donald Blake, is bringing the Mighty Throg back to the Marvel Universe. How this will all happen is uncertain at the moment but this should be a fun addition to a great run on Thor.

SD & GI RPG
Whether you want to step into a sci-fi Western and hunt down criminals on distant worlds, or stalk the poisoned battlefields of Nu-Earth, two new rulebooks for an acclaimed tabletop roleplaying series allow you to dive even further into the galaxy of 2000 AD’s greatest series!
Following on from the success of the Judge Dredd & Worlds of 2000 AD tabletop roleplaying game, game publisher EN Publishing has announced new expansions that introduce the worlds of Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper.
The new expansion hardcover books, available from EN Publishing, introduce you to the worlds of Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper, providing you with in-depth information on new settings, characters, and rules for these popular science fiction worlds so that you can create your own adventures!
Both expansion hardcover books require the Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD core rulebook, which is also available from EN Publishing.
In Strontium Dog, Johnny Alpha and the bounty hunters of the Search/Destroy agency hunt their targets relentlessly across the galactic frontier. Human society despises but relies upon these mutant ‘Strontium Dog’ mercenaries to root out the galaxy’s deadliest criminals. So step into the Doghouse, polish your S/D badge, and take your place alongside famous agents such as Johnny Alpha, Wulf Sternhammer, and Durham Red to await your next contract.
Set in the same universe as Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog jumps ahead to the year 2180 and offers the entire galaxy as a playground. With new careers for S/D agents, unique equipment like the variable-cartridge blaster, time bomb and time drogue, a gazetteer of the galaxy and guide to creating new and exciting locations, sample contracts and adventure seeds, plus a whole host of adversaries and allies, this supplement provides an entirely new way to explore the Judge Dredd & the Worlds of 2000 AD roleplaying game.
In the Rogue Trooper universe, the Norts and the Southers wage an endless war for control of the poisoned planet Nu-Earth. The Southers develop superhuman soldiers known as Genetic Infantrymen, or GIs, in the hopes of stalling the Norts’ advance. Whether as an enlisted human or GI clone, it’s time to join the Souther defence against the relentless assault of the Norts. Welcome to Nu-Earth – do not leave home without your chemsuit!
Rogue Trooper offers several new species such as the Genetic Infantryman and Srigoi, a raft of new careers that define a character’s military service on either side of the conflict, new equipment and vehicles designed to keep the characters safes during their mission, a full gazetteer of Nu-Earth, plus tips and trick to running games of Rogue Trooper in other settings with different themes. Set against the backdrop of the unending war for control of Nu-Earth, this supplement provides a completely new experience for the Judge Dredd & the World of 2000 AD roleplaying game.
Save Hellblazer
I’d like to remind everyone how magnificent this series is and how we shouldn’t allow DC to cancel it with issue 12. Sign the #SaveHellblazer petition here – Persuade DC Comics to continue the John Constantine: Hellblazer series
I hope that recent events depicted in Justice League Dark don’t have any bearing on this situation.
