The Geeky Brummie Pull List – Comics of 2021

With no new comics in UK shops this week, I’m taking the opportunity to look back on some of my favourite comics from 2021. Most are available now in collected editions and would be the perfect thing to spend some of your Christmas money on.

Title: Star Trek: Year Five

Publisher: IDW Publishing

Written by Jody Houser, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Jim McCann : Art by Silvia Califano, Angel Hernandez, J.K. Woodward and Stephen Thompson

Join the crew of the original Starship Enterprise in these all-new adventures as they near the conclusion of their five-year mission. Finally returning to Federation space, the Enterprise and her crew find the Federation isn’t quite the same as the one they left behind! Kirk grapples with a very personal Klingon threat, even as the Enterprise begins its homecoming victory tour, and the Federation’s upcoming presidential election is upended when Harry Mudd enters the race! All this against the backdrop of a sinister malaise threatening to rot the Federation from within. Title: 2000AD

Publisher: 2000AD/Rebellion

2000 AD is a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic magazine. As a comics anthology, it serialises stories in each issue (known as “progs”) and was first published by IPC Magazines in 1977, the first issue dated 26 February. IPC then shifted the title to its Fleetway comics subsidiary, which was sold to Robert Maxwell in 1987 and then to Egmont UK in 1991. Fleetway continued to produce the title until 2000 when it was bought by Rebellion Developments.

2000 AD is most noted for its Judge Dredd stories and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland and Mike McMahon. Other characters in 2000 AD include Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog and the ABC Warriors.

2000 AD has been a successful launchpad for getting British talent into the larger American comics market.

 

Title: The Dreaming: Waking Hours

Publisher: DC Black Label

Written by G. Willow Wilson : Art by M.K. Perker, Nick Robles, Javier Rodriguez : Colored by Mat Lopes, Javier Rodriguez, Chris Sotomayor

Title: Beta Ray Bill
