The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Good Boy
It’s a bumper week this week as we play catch up with the comics the were released over the holiday period. Thanks to bank holidays some comics may be late arriving on our shelves. When you do have a chance to pop in to your local comic shop look out for our Comic of the Week, issue two of Good Boy from Source Point Press. Also on the Pull List this week are the latest issues of Once and Future, One-Star Squadron, X-Men and the final issue of Inferno. We have seven new comics to look out for On The Radar from DC Comics, DC Horror, Dark Horse Comics, Image and AWA/Upshot Studios.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Good Boy
Issue: 2
Publisher: Source Point Press
Written by Christina Black and Garrett Gunn : Art by Kit Wallis
With the entirety of the Vadicci Family hunting him down, Flint Sparks turns to old friends for help.
The first issue was a hugely enjoyable romp that managed to be both brutal and heartwarming. Whilst it doesn’t do anything particularly new it does do what I want my comics to do – entertain.
Title: Once and Future
Issue: 23
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Kieron Gillen : Art by Dan Mora : Coloured by Tamra Bonvillain
What must Nimue do to save her son? Strike up a deal with the last person she’d ever team up with… Bridgette, her mother. Meanwhile, Duncan must find another living legend. But are they an ally… or another monster to defeat?
23 issues in and I’m still loving this series and it’s take on British folklore. I’m sure Gillen is fuelled by the ridiculousness of British life right now and has many more stories to tell.
Title: One-Star Squadron
Issue: 2
Publisher: DC Comics
Written by Mark Russell Art by Steve Lieber : Coloured by Dave Stewart
Meet Minute Man, the greatest hero probably never heard of! It’s not easy being Red (Tornado)! As the boss, he’s got everyone relying on him for their next paycheck. Enter Minute Man, a 1990s has-been superhero looking for 15 more minutes of fame…or at least a way to pay for Miraclo pills. Without them, he’s a super-zero and he’s willing to do anything for one more chance at power. How far will he go? Meet Metropolis Comic Con’s newest special guest!
Russell does it again. This series got off to a flying start in issue one and I’m already sure that this book will feature in many best of lists come the end of the year, and it’s only January.
Title: X-Men
Issue: 6
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Gerry Duggan : Art by Pepe Larraz
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CAPTAIN KRAKOA? There’s a new hero on the X-Men. Who is he? Why is here? And why does Cyclops not want him on the team?
The preview pages along make me really keen to read this issue. The introduction of Captain Krakoa could be something incredible or it could all be an evil ruse and I’m going to hate Gerry Duggan pulling the rug from under my feet in the final pages. It’s exciting.
Title: Inferno
Issue: 4
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Jonathan Hickman : Art by Valerio Schiti : Cover by Jerome Opeña
TO EMBERS! Jonathan Hickman’s time on X-Men ends with the dramatic conclusion of one of the first and best mysteries he brought to the line. Valerio Schiti returns on art to help bring down one of the foundations of the era.
So Hickman bows out of the X-verse having changed things in a big way. Will his final book shake things up even more? This is perhaps not the story he originally set out to tell, but it has at least meant the X-Men and its sister books have been trying something new and in many cases succeeding.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
The Human Target #3

Superman ’78 #5
DC Comics
Written by Robert Venditti : Art by Wilfredo Torres : Coloured by Jordie Bellaire : Cover by Francis Manapul
As Brainiac attacks Metropolis for Lex Luthor’s transgressions, Superman works as fast as he can to escape the bottled city of Kandor! But what it will take to get free from the shrunken Kryptonian city might be more than the Man of Steel can handle. Will he be able to leave behind the people he thought he lost and save his adoptive world, or will Superman be cataloged and preserved permanently by Brainiac?
Mazebook #5
Dark Horse Comics

From New York Times bestselling and Eisner award-winning Black Hammer and Sweet Tooth creator Jeff Lemire comes this ambitious and haunting comic series about family, mourning, and reality. As Will continues his fight across a dangerous metropolitan maze on the hunt to find his long-gone daughter, he comes face-to-face with his own literal monsters as he tries to find her and bring her home. “Mazebook is a deeply haunting and powerfully human work by one of the greatest living masters of the comic medium.
