The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone
Hello and welcome to another Geeky Brummie Pull List. This week there is only one comic on the pull list and it’s a comic I’ve been looking forward to for some time. Six other comics make it in to our On The Radar section and you should definitely check them out
In Meanwhile… we are teased some information about the changes coming in Reign of X.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Locke & Key/The Sandman Universe: Hell & Gone
Issue: 1
Publisher: DC Black Label/IDW
Written by Joe Hill : Art by Gabriel Rodriguez
From the Publisher:
If you think you can unlock the gates of Hell and just invite yourself in, you must be Dreaming! The epic crossover between two of the most beloved fantasy universes in comics begins here. John “Jack” Locke is ten years dead, but that hasn’t stopped him from posting the occasional letter home… from Hell. Now, Mary Locke will do anything to save her brother’s soul. Her quest to rescue him from The Pit will require her to outsmart Roderick Burgess (the most evil man in England), puzzle her way through the House of Mystery, and risk the walking nightmare known as The Corinthian in a disintegrating Kingdom of Dreams!
I’m a huge fan of the original Neil Gaiman Sandman series. It was a comic that transcended the medium and continues to be a powerful brand with the new Sandman Universe range of books. Locke & Key was writer Joe Hill’s first foray into comics and proved to be a big hit for IDW. Now these two titans are coming together for a crossover that should be spectacular. Revisiting characters from the first Sandman story arc and throwing them into the world of Locke House is a wonderful concept. With Rodriguez returning on art duties the series is sure to look incredible and with Hill let loose in the Kingdom of Dreams anything could happen. If you’re a fan of either series you shouldn’t miss this limited series and if this is your first exposure to these characters I can’t imagine how much it’ll blow your mind.
On the radar this week some other comics not yet on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Incredible SF action from the Eisner-nominated UK anthology! A former Judge returns from his prison-stretch on Titan but faces a toxic welcoming committee in Judge Dredd: ‘A Penitent Man’; the cult’s influence continues to be felt in folk-horror Thistlebone: ‘Poisoned Roots’; Bode and Wrath battle a necromancer in Feral & Foe; there’s more terrifying Visions of Deadworld; and we have short, sharp thrills in Tharg’s 3rillers, featuring the return of the Intestinauts, and deep-space action in ‘Chorus & the Ring’!
X-Changes
Marvel Comics latest phase of X-Men comics commanded by Jonathan Hickman has been dubbed Reign Of X. Things have already started to change amongst the X-books with the launch of Children of the Atom and next weeks Way of X. Things look set to change even more dramatically after this summer’s event, The Hellfire Gala, where we will get some relaunches and new series from some familiar creators.
The main X-Men title is set to relaunch with a new #1 with written Gerry Duggan taking over from Hickman and Pepe Larraz on art duties. Most interestingly we have two new titles that are yet to be revealed – first a mystery title from Leah Williams and Valerio Schiti – that looks like it starts with The. Then Hickman and a mystery artist launch a new X-book. As the logo appears to be circular it could be the return of an older X-Men monicker – perhaps with Uncanny or New – although Hickman previously said the name Uncanny wasn’t going to happen under his tenure. Whatever the changes I hope the quality of X-books remains. Check out the Marvel press release and teaser image below.
The Reign of X is here! The latest era in writer Jonathan Hickman’s revolutionary transformation of the X-Men universe is now underway, bringing with it exciting new titles like last month’s Children of the Atom by Vita Ayala and Bernard Chang, next month’s Way of X by Si Spurrier and Bob Quinn, and May’s X-Corp by Tini Howard and Alberto Foche. And after June’s highly-anticipated franchise-spanning Hellfire Gala, fans can expect even more surprises, including a trio of brand-new series by amazing X-Men creators such as Gerry Duggan, Leah Williams, Pepe Larraz, Valerio Schiti, and the Head of X himself, writer Jonathan Hickman.
