The Geeky Brummie Pull List with S.W.O.R.D.
It’s another small Pull List as we head into Christmas this week with S.W.O.R.D. taking the Comic of the Week title once again. Filling out the rest of the Pull List is the final issue of X-Men: The Trial of Magneto. We three new comics to look out for On The Radar from DC Comics, DC Black Label and Marvel.
In Meanwhile… we cath up with a whole bunch of recent 2000AD and Rebellion announcements.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Title: S.W.O.R.D.
Issue: 11
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Al Ewing : Art by Jacopo Camagni : Cover by Stefano Caselli
THE FINAL FRONTIER? Sword Station One is crashing to Earth. The Lethal Legion is poised to destroy the diplomatic zone. Abigail Brand is ready to make her move. But how far ahead did she plan? How many losses will she accept? And how many bodies will she leave in her wake?
I’ve been enjoying this book and hoped we get to see Al fly with these mutants. But as Marvel can’t help but shoot themselves in the foot by announcing all the new mutants books coming net year it looks like this title is coming to a premature end. It’s a pity as this book never really got going, lots of great ideas have been planted but I guess we won’t see the spoils. Maybe Al will get to return to S.W.O.R.D. in the future but I’ve had fun while it lasted.
Title: X-Men: The Trial of Magneto
Issue: 5
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Leah Williams : Art by David Messina and Lucas Werneck : Cover by Valerio Schiti
JUSTICE IS SERVED. The mystery surrounding Magneto and Scarlet Witch is resolved. The guilty will be judged, the innocent absolved, the victims avenged…and all shall endure their own trials.
Another book ending this week. The Trial of Magneto started strongly but I’m not sure it will stick the landing. With all the upcoming changes to the mutant range it seems like a lot of books are rushing to a conclusion, which kinda happened with these books before Hickman took over. Anyhow, this has been a fun book but whether the implications of its story will have any lasting impact
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
The Amazing Spider-Man #82
Marvel Comics
Written by Saladin Ahmed : Art by Jorge Fornés : Cover by Arthur Adams
Something horribly wrong is happening at the McCarthy Medical Center. Mary Jane Watson is trying to nurse the bedridden Peter Parker to health, but when Peter’s roommate disappears, MJ has to step up. Can MJ and a nonmobile Peter get to the bottom of this hospital mystery?
Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow #6
DC Comics
Written by Tom King : Art by Bilquis Evely : Coloured by Mat Lopes
The traumatic secrets of Supergirl’s past are revealed as our heroine races to the edge of the universe to escape Krem and his latest weapon! The murderer of young Ruthye’s father has gotten his hands on a Mordru globe and plans to use it to make our hero disappear forever. Can she save herself and the young girl’s future in the process? She’ll need the help of her trusty steed, Comet the Superhorse!
Batman vs Bigby! A Wolf in Gotham #4
DC Black Label
Written by Bill Willingham : Art by Brian Level, Anthony Fowler Jr. and Jay Leisten : Coloured by Lee Loughridge : Cover by Nathan Fairbairn and Yanick Paquette
Batman and Bigby call a cease-fire as the city recovers from a night of violence, and evidence of a shared enemy surfaces when Gotham’s magical connection to Fabletown is revealed. But with egos at stake and wounds to lick, will a common cause be enough to transform this tenuous truce into a heroic alliance?
