The Geeky Brummie Pull List with TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution
The Pull List this week has just 8 new comics on it. Our Comic of the Week is TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution from IDW Publishing. The other 5 comic on the main pull list come from DC Comics, Image Comics and Marvel Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes only 2 new comics from DC Comics and Image Comics. No MEANWHILE… this week, sorry folks.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution
Issue 1
IDW Publishing
Script – Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman
Art – Ben Bishop, Esau Escorza and Isaac Escorza
Colours – Luis Antonio Delgado
Letters – Shawn Lee
More than a decade after the Last Ronin defeated the Foot Clan, New York City finds itself in a state of steady decline. Now, the disparate gangs vie for economic and political control and that the chaos is taking its toll. It’s clear to Casey Marie that if something isn’t done soon, the city she knows and loves will be lost forever. So, whether they’re ready or not, she and her young pupils must raise a new coalition and lead the charge to keep the peace. Witness the rise of the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they fight to restore peace to the streets they live below! Legendary TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman proudly presents the next epic chapter of The Last Ronin, reassembling the acclaimed creative team from the original monster bestseller for a second oversized, prestige format miniseries event!
The original The Last Ronin book was a huge moment in Turtle history, showing a gritty future for our heroes in a half shell. The story left us with a new generation of Turtles to carry on the legacy of Clan Hamato. Now 2 years after that book ended Yi, Odyn, Moya and Uno return all grown up and any ready to take on a very different New York City.
This series looks to be closer in feel to the regular TMNT universe, and moving away slightly from the dark intensity of the original run. I’m excited to see where this story takes the franchise and how it will acknowledge what came before.
Void Rivals
Issue 7
Skybound/Image Comics
Script – Robert Kirkman
Art – Lorenzo De Felici
Colours – Patricio Delpeche
Letters – Rus Wooton
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Void Rivals #7 (Link)
NEW STORY ARC
Darak and Solila traverse the northern wasteland. Danger lurks around every corner. The Void Rivals corner of the Energon Universe continues to grow as PROXIMUS is on the hunt!
Void Rivals kicks off its second story arc, seamlessly picking up the story where it left off. The relationship between Darak and Solila looks set to develop even further as they find themselves navigating a barren wasteland. Can they trust each other enough to survive? As always, the book looks beautiful and I’m loving this part of the Energon Universe.
Birds of Prey
Issue 7
DC Comics
Script – Kelly Thompson
Art – Javier Pina
Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Birds of Prey #7 (Link)
NEW MISSION! NEW TEAM! Sin is alive and back with Black Canary in Gotham, and the world didn’t get destroyed, but the cost was high and nobody’s exactly sure what it means yet. Shocking revelations in the wake of the Birds’ first mission lead Dinah to… a conspiracy against the Birds of Prey and a whole new mission. New mission, new team. Hold onto your butts.
Kicking off a new story arc, this series perfectly balances the tone between drama and humour, making it a joy to read. Black Canary is back with Sin in tow, and this team they are teaming with the original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this series is well worth your time.
Shazam!
Issue 9
DC Comics
Script – Mark Waid
Art – Emanuela Lupacchino
Colours – Trish Mulvihill
Letters – Troy Peteri
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Shazam! #9 (Link)
THE CAPTAIN VS. THE CREEPER! The Captain has thwarted a cadre of space dinosaurs, talked the gods into being reasonable for five little minutes, and managed to look A-OK doing it. So what’s left? WELL WE CREEP. YEEEAAAHHH, WE KEEP IT ON THE DOWN-LOW. It’s the fight of the century: THE CAPTAIN VS. THE CREEPER!
One of DC’s most interesting characters looks set to make life interesting for the good Captain. This issue is the last for series writer Mark Waid and I’m sure he’ll go out strong. I’m excited for what comes next though, as Josie Campbell takes over, after such great work on The New Champion of Shazam! series.
The Sensational She-Hulk
Issue 6
Marvel Comics
Script – Rainbow Rowell
Art – Ig Guara
Colours – Dee Cunniffe
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Sensational She-Hulk #6 (Link)
Last issue, She-Hulk was offered a spot on the Avengers. Will she take it? In the meantime, Jen and Jack of Hearts’ space vacation gets quite dangerous. Lingering questions from years ago are going to be asked again, and the answers may just destroy the new It Couple of Comics! THIS COVER WAS PREVIOUSLY SOLICITED AS #4, BUT IT MOVED TO THIS ISSUE AS THE STORY SHIFTED!
LEGACY #184
Finally, we get the She-Hulk in space story. Rainbow Rowell is writing a great story, balancing Jen’s heroic duty and her personal love life. Will the offer of a spot on the Avengers put a strain on her relationship with Jack. I’m as invested in this relationship as I was Scott and Ramona, and this series is one of Marvel’s hidden gems. This book is full of intrigue and heart and you should jump on board as soon as you can.
X-Men
Issue 32
Marvel Comics
Script – Gerry Duggan
Art – Phil Noto
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – X-Men #32 (Link)
BESTIES WITH BLOODY BLADES! Kate Pryde and Illyana Rasputin have been best friends for a long time. They’ve had good times, and they’ve had bad times. One thing they can always agree on? Stomping anti-mutant bigots’ heads.
Seeing Kitty and Illyana side by side again is wonderful. These characters have always complemented each other perfectly, sharing a history and mutual determination that makes them a formidable duo. But all that pales in comparison to the other big thing promises on the cover. Yes, my favourite X-Man of all time returns. Oh my gosh, Lockheed, how I’ve missed you. Hopefully Lockheed, Kitty and Magik will get to kick arse, just like they did in the old days.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:
Love Everlasting #13

Art – Elsa Charretier

Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Dave Lanphear
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain #5 (Link)
