Now on with the comics…
John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America
Issue 1
DC Black Label
Script – Simon Spurrier
Art – Aaron Campbell
Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Aditya Bidikar
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #1 (Link)
At last, as you demanded: The celebrated creative team of Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell have returned to Hellblazer! John Constantine has cheated death once again—but his heart’s not beating, his body is decaying, and he, his friend Nat, and his son Noah are on the run in America, wanted for murder. Naturally, it’s all John’s fault—it always is. But as it turns out, Dream himself needs John’s help. Something terrible has taken root in America, and it’s using the sand from Dream’s pouch to impose its will. If John can put a stop to it, he might be able to parlay that favor into a chance to save all their lives—but he’s going to need help from someone he hasn’t spoken to in years. Someone he wasn’t always…all that kind to. Someone…or some…Thing? Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell‘s first run on Hellblazer was the best-reviewed comic of 2020, reintroducing the character to a new generation, and their second act, told in extra-length 28-page issues, is ambitious and unmissable!
DC really dropped the ball when they unceremoniously cancelled Spurrier’s and Campbell’s first run of Hellblazer. It had been the best version of Constantine in decades, and wasn’t shy about addressing current issues face on. Perhaps noticing how brilliant Damn Them All was doing over at BOOM! Studios, DC have resurrected the team to put right past mistakes. As readers of this column will already known, I was a huge fan of that series, and I’m over the moon that we get to continue our adventures with John. Currently slated for a brief 3 issue run, I hope this is a huge success and they team get to keep telling their stories, as it’s obvious Spurrier has more to say via the character and his world.
Star Trek
Issue 16

The Tzenkethi Festival of Supremacy has come at a heavy cost for Captain Sisko when members of the Theseus crew members lose their lives to gargantuan beasts. But despite seeing through the battle and warding off the ancient reptilian species, Sisko finds himself overshadowed by the Romulans and their efforts to persuade the Tzenkethi into an alliance. All the while, Cardassia joins the bid to win over the reptilian species in hopes of taking advantage of their new war fleet. Can Sisko convince this cunning yet brute force-favoring species of Starfleet ideals… or do the Federation’s foes have a point?
Expanding the Star Trek universe even further, this series maintains it’s high standards and is one all Trek fans should have on their pull list.

LEGACY #190
This has been a great series and it all draws to a conclusion with this issue. Whether it warps all the story threads up here or in the soon to be released Annual, I’ve had a great time with book. And of course, I’ll looking to pick up this awesome ROM variant cover.
X-Men

Marvel Comics

Synch and Talon find themselves once more besieged by the High Evolutionary and his creations to reap the consequences of their last encounter!
Although it seems to be out of sync with what’s happening in all the other Fall of the House X books, X-Men remains a throughly entertaining read. And again I’ll be chasing this ROM variant cover.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 42
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – John Romita Jr. and Scott Hanna
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Amazing Spider-Man #42 (Link)

LEGACY #936
I’m still sticking with Spidey, as Gang War seems to be the kind of story that works well for the character.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:

It’s Dinosaurs vs. Cowboys
Launching this week is the new comic from Shane Chebsey and Scratch Comics, Dinosaurs vs. Cowboys. Dedicated to his late father, this comic captures the visceral thrills of bygone pulp movies like Valley of the Gwangi. This looks to be another great addition to an already great selection of comics from Shane and his team.
Here is the low down of the book straight from the Indiegogo campaign –
Inspired by the classic dinosaur movies and pulp action movies of the mid to late 20th century, with a twist of something very new from our top creative team, including comics superstar John McCrea (Hitman, Deadpool) and 2000ad’s very own Eoin Coveney (The Alienist, Judge Dredd)
This fun, yet sometimes horrific, comic includes two action packed tales of dinosaurs encountering gunslingers of the american wild west of the 1800’s and the carnage that ensues following this prehistoric clash of genres.
“But why?” I hear you ask.
Well it all goes back to the first time I ever saw a movie at the tender age of 3.
I was sitting with my Dad on a 1970’s Saturday afternoon and the classic dinosaur movie The Valley of Gwangi came onto the TV.
This was to start a life long fascination, not just with western movies, but also with dinosaur movies. Every Saturday, for what seemed forever back then in those heady pre-school days, my Dad and I would watch re runs of old westerns and dinosaur movies on our old black and white TV.
To escape into these mythical worlds of gunslingers and monsters was a training ground for later fascinations in films like Planet of the Apes and Star Wars, which had their own roots in westerns and monster movies of course.
Films like The Land That Time Forgot, Mysterious Island and Journey to The Centre of The Earth were firmly engraved into my childhood psyche, making it inevitable that once I started to read, just a short time later at the age of four, I would be pulled to towards dinosaur books, old western comics and of course those sci-fi super powered adventurers the Fantastic Four, who seemed to be facing giant monsters on a regular basis.
As I grew older the relationship with my Dad, as for so many teenage boys, became strained and full of conflict.
We seemed to have very little in common most of the time. However once I left home things improved and I would love to go and visit and spend time again watching those old movies with him, much to the sufferance of my mum, who had been subjected to them many times over.
So when Dad passed away suddenly in January 2023 it was hard to imagine that we would never spend the time sharing that one thing we both loved again… old westerns and monster movies.
I was talking about this with my good friend and fellow creator Chris McAuley not long after Dad’s funeral and I expressed my desire to one day create a Dinosaurs Vs Cowboys comic, inspired by those heady memories of lost worlds and gunfights, and much to my surprise and delight Chris just said in his distinctive Northern Irish Accent… “F*#k it..let’s do it!”
And so we did. The title wrote itself and my first three choices for artists on the book all said “yes” when I asked them, which was a dream come true.
So now we are very proud to present Dinosaurs Vs Cowboys, written by Chris in his unmistakably visceral style and dedicated, with love, to my Dad.
Gone, but definitely not forgotten.
With a top tier creative team, this book is one not to be missed. Find out more and pledge for your copy of this incredible comic via the Dinosaurs vs. Cowboys IndieGoGo page (Link).
