The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Transformers #2
Our Pull List this week features 14 new comics. Our Comic of the Week title is Transformers #2 from Skybound/Image Comics. The other 7 comics on the main pull list are published by DC Comics, BOOM! Studios, IDW Publishing, Image and Marvel Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes 6 comics from Image Comics, DC Comics, Sumerian Comics and BOOM! Box. And MEANWHILE… is still resting.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Transformers
Issue 2
Skybound/Image Comics
Script & Art – Daniel Warren Johnson
Colours – Mike Spicer
Buy digitally on Comixology – Transformers #2 (Link)
THE SMASH-HIT SERIES CONTINUES! The Decepticons have been unleashed! As Optimus Prime and Autobots regroup, Starscream terrorizes humanity. This issue features a surprising first Energon Universe appearance!
The first issue of this new take on Transformers was pretty spectacular, with Daniel Warren Johnson taking some unexpected turns. This is certainly not like any Transformers we’ve had before and that makes me very excited to see what happens next. If you thought Transformers: The Movies was traumatic, hold on to your hats for what might be in store here.
Damn Them All
Issue 10
BOOM! Studios
Script – Simon Spurrier
Art – Charlie Adlard
Colours – Sofie Dodgson
Buy digitally on Comixology – Damn Them All #10 (Link)
The 500 Club has a new world order in mind, and Ellie is caught in the middle; she’s set up and without a prayer.
Cillian will stop at nothing to induct Bloody El into his demonic hivemind, and Ellie will have to try something unconventional with Glasya Labolas to shake things up… but will it work as expected?
This is still one of my favourite books. DC don’t know what they missed out on. Horrific and funny, this book is definitely one for fans of foul mouthed mages.
Birds of Prey
Issue 3
DC Comics
Script – Kelly Thompson
Art – Leonardo Romero
Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology – Birds of Prey #3 (Link)
THE FIRST MISSION FOR THE NEW TEAM! DESTINATION: THEMYSCIRA! The covert first mission of the re-formed Birds of Prey has established their beachhead…in Themyscira! What could be so important to Black Canary that she’d risk the wrath of the greatest warriors on Earth?!
Only three issues in and this book is already firing on all cylinders. The new team is a perfect balance of characters who look destined to delivery exciting stories for a long time to come.
Shazam!
Issue 5
DC Comics
Script – Mark Waid
Art – Dan Mora
Colours – Alejandro Sánchez
Letters – Troy Peteri
Buy digitally on Comixology – Shazam! #5 (Link)
BILLY VS. THE GODS! The Captain’s battle against the forces of the Moon Emperor may orbit the absurd…but it’s full of action that will leave you…Apollo? (You can create your own moon pun for the end there, kids.) Mary Marvel joins the fray, the Shazam Family faces the Gods, and a devastating betrayal awaits you in this issue!
Wow, what a fabulous cover. It captures everything you need to know about the characters. Waid and Mora can really do no wrong at the moment and have thrown us back to a time when comics were fun and contained characters and stories that truly connect with us.
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 9
IDW Publsihing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Mike Feehan
Buy digitally on Comixology – Star Trek: Defiant #9 (Link)
Disavowed from Starfleet despite their heroic actions, Worf and his crew set out in their new roles as bounty hunters on their first mission since the bloody battle against the tyrant Kahless. Their first target: an individualized ex-member of the Borg Collective known as Hugh.
Boy, these IDW Star Trek books are really great. The idea of Worf working as a bounty hunter is inspired and really marries with where we see him years later in Picard. Bringing back Hugh also looks like the bonds with that show will continue to grow.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Issue 8
Marvel Comics
Script – Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly
Art – Kev Walker
Colours – Matt Hollingsworth
Letters – Travis Lanham
Buy digitally on Comixology – Guardians of the Galaxy #8 (Link)
THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN! AND NEW (?) GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The truth about Grootfall is out there now, but will the universe listen? Do we even have to ask? It’s the Guardians vs. Whitecap High Command! The Fight for the Fold reaches its explosive conclusion just in time for everything to go to flark!
LEGACY #188
I’m still having a blast with this title and I’m loving Kev Walkers depiction of the gang.
X-Men: Red
Issue 17
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Yıldıray Çınar
Letters – Ariana Maher
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men: Red #17 (Link)
APOCALYPSE NOW! When Genesis returned to Arakko, she brought war in her wake. What will her husband bring with him? This issue—Apocalypse returns! Storm holds the ultimate weapon in her grip —but in the face of En Sabah Nur, even that may not be enough…
It’s been a long while since we last saw Apocalypse, so I wonder what he will make of the situation the mutants currently find themselves in.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 37
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – Ed McGuinness
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Amazing Spider-Man #37 (Link)
GANG WAR: FIRST STRIKE! Rek-Rap returns! Spider-Man’s fun-house reflection might just be the thing to help the wall-crawler out of the darkness he can’t seem to shake. Well, Rek-Rap MIGHT help if he weren’t targeted by the scariest new Spidey-Villain in decades! GANG WAR IS COMING!
LEGACY #931
The road to Gang War continues. Nice to have more McGuinness Spidey.

ROBERT VENDITTI RETURNS TO THE MAN OF STEEL FOR THE SUPERMAN ’78 SEQUEL! When the planet Krypton exploded, its last son was rocketed across the cosmos and came to settle in a small town in Kansas. But what else came with him, and what if a piece of his home landed somewhere we never knew about? As Superman has become a symbol of strength and pride for America, the Soviet Union looks to crush that image with a creation of their own, built by their own might and forged by their own power! Robert Venditti returns to the Man of Steel with new artist Gavin Guidry!
Zawa + The Belly of the Beast #1
BOOM! Box
Script, Art & Letters – Michael Dialynas
Buy digitally on Comixology – Zawa + The Belly of the Beast #1 (Link)
Trapped inside her mountain by pollution-spewing factories, the guardian spirit Zawa only has industrial waste to eat, leading her to a bitter existence of paranoia and destruction.

GLAAD Award-winning and Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Michael Dialynas (Wynd, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) crafts a charmingly macabre eco-fable about nature, greed, the dangers of retribution, and good food shared among friends.
