Now on with the comics…
Transformers
Issue 5
Image Comics/Skybound
Script and Art – Daniel Warren Johnson
Colours – Mike Spicer
Letters – Rus Wooton
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Transformers #5 (Link)
Starscream revives one of the most powerful Decepticons to eliminate the Autobots once and for all.
Setting something of a record, Transformers is my comic of the week for the fifth week in a row. And it thoroughly deserves its place at the top. This book really is doing something diffrent with the franchise and DWJ has reinvigorated my interest in the robots in disguise. With only one issue left with DWJ on both writing and art duties, I hope the book can maintain this momentum and keep thrilling me each month.
Beware the Planet of the Apes
Issue 2
Marvel Comics
Script – Marc Guggenheim
Art – Álvaro López
Colours – Alex Guimarães
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Beware the Planet of the Apes #2 (Link)
THREE STRIKES, YOU’RE OUT! The search for Lucius brings ape scientists Cornelius and Zira, along with their human guide Nova, deeper into the Forbidden Zone—which is forbidden for a reason. What never-before-seen dangers await them in the ruins of the old Yankee Stadium? Find out in the next installment of the thrilling new series by Marc Guggenheim and Álvaro López!
The first issue was a solid introduction to the world of POTA. Going back to the original series of films is a great idea and with the excellent new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, edging ever closer to this part of Apes history I hope more fans give this series a go.
Fall of the House of X
Issue 2
Marvel Comics
Script – Gerry Duggan
Art – Lucas Werneck
Colours – Bryan Valenza
Letters – Travis Lanham
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Fall of the House of X #2 (Link)
NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT! The X-Men may be at their lowest spot, and they may be on the brink of complete eradication…but they are not going down without a fight! Polaris returns to guide the X-Men home, bringing a wicked surprise for Orchis! This epic tale split in two continues as the Krakoan Age nears its conclusion!
The first issues of Fall and Rise certainly intrigued me and I really want to see if Marvel can stick the landing on this one.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 43
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – John Romita Jr. and Scott Hanna
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Amazing Spider-Man #43 (Link)
The Final Fight of GANG WAR starts here! The biggest and most brutal battle in Spider-Man history starts now, so batten your hatches!!! If you thought you knew what Madame Masque or Hobgoblin or Beetle or Diamondback was capable of, THINK AGAIN!
LEGACY #937
Gang War starts to wrap up in the main ASM book with this issue, with what promises to be a fight of a lifetime for Spidey. All in all it’s been a fun read and JRJR has drawn the heck out of it. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out in the next issue and how the it will affect NYC going forward, as I’m sure there will be winners and losers, and the losers won’t be likely to let it lie.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:
The Deviant #4
Image Comics
Script – James Tynion IV
Art – Josh Hixson
