The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Transformers 8
It’s a smaller Pull List this week with only 8 new comics making the list. Our Comic of the Week is Transformers 8 from Skybound and Image Comics. The other comics on the main pull list comes from DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes 4 new comics from Image Comics, IDW Publishing and Marvel Comics. In MEANWHILE… watch our visit to Worlds Apart Birmingham for Free Comic Book/Star Wars Day 2024.

Now on with the comics…
Transformers
Issue 8
Image Comics/Skybound
Script – Daniel Warren Johnson
Art – Jorge Corona
Colours – Mike Spicer
Letters – Rus Wooton
Buy digitally from Comixology/Kindle – Transformers #8 (Link)
WELCOME TO CYBERTRON! As the Autobots and Decepticons make some tough choices to survive on Earth, the return of [SPOILER] will change the war on Cybertron forever.
Transformers continues to be one of the best comics around. Following the events in the Energon Universe FCBD issue (a special new printing of ENERGON UNIVERSE FCBD 2024 SPECIAL is also available today), the Autobots and Decepticons find themselves at a crossroads. With characters returning and others missing, this book continues to build upon the rich lore of the franchise. Johnson’s writing and Corona’s art combine to deliver an engaging issue that leaves readers hungry for more. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this series is worth following.
Birds of Prey
Issue 9
DC Comics
Script – Kelly Thompson
Art – Jonathan Case and Gavin Guidry
Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Birds of Prey #9 (Link)
THE BIRDS SEARCH FOR BARBARA GORDON! If the Birds of Prey have one mission, it’s “protect Barbara Gordon at all costs,” and that mission is… not going great. Dinah and her team search for Barbara in this strange new world that seems specifically designed to trip them up. Many mysteries lurk in the dark of this world, and some of them don’t even want to kill you… probably.
I’ve been enjoying the exploits of the Birds of Prey and the art remains a highlight. Fans of the Birds of Prey should find plenty to enjoy in this issue
Shazam!
Issue 11
DC Comics
Script – Josie Campbell
Art – Emanuela Lupacchino
Colours – Trish Mulvihill
Letters – Troy Peteri
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Shazam! #11 (Link)
ADOPTION ANTICS! The Vasquezes have made the extraordinary decision to adopt the kids! All they have to do is pass a home inspection by the adoption agency, but ever since the Gods rebuilt the family home, things have become a bit of a magical mess. Can they make it through the day without the inspector running into any interdimensional creatures?
A fun mix of family and magic, Shazam! continues to forge a new path for the Shazamily. Campbell and her team have stepped up to the plate left by Waid and Mora, and have delivered an engaging story.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 49
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – John Romita Jr. and Scott Hanna
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Amazing Spider-Man #49 (Link)
Vampires are running rampant through New York City and while the Avengers are caught in the middle, someone has to take care of the citizens of the Big Apple. That person? Yep, Spider-Man. But if only it were that simple. Things never are and this issue leads directly into Spider-Man’s larger role in BLOOD HUNT!
LEGACY #943
This story is a tie-in to the larger “Blood Hunt” event, where vampires are wreaking havoc across the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man’s role becomes crucial as he battles these bloodthirsty creatures while trying to maintain order in the city. The tension is high, and the ‘stakes’ are even higher. Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man #49 is an exciting issue that sets the stage for Spider-Man’s involvement in the larger vampire storyline. Fans of the web-slinger won’t be disappointed!
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:
Fantastic Four #20
Marvel Comics
Script – Ryan North
Art – Carlos Gómez
Colours – Jesus Aburtov and Fernando Sifuentes
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Fantastic Four #20 (Link)
Things are calm and normal, and definitely will be for a long while. Things are NOT about to explode in everyone’s faces, and this is NOT the last chance at normalcy that the FF will have for a very, very long time! With that being absolutely the case, Ben “The Thing” Grimm and Johnny “The Human Torch” Storm get part-time jobs to bring in some extra cash for the family – and end up getting the same job at the same location. But surely pairing a hotheaded fire guy with an exasperated rock guy is a recipe for peace, quiet and tranquility, right? And surely these two won’t bring their own drama with them when working side by side, yes? Also in this issue: anagnorisis!
LEGACY #713
The Deviant #5
Image Comics
Script – James Tynion IV
Art – Josh Hixson
Letters – Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Deviant #5 (Link)
Michael Schmitz is working on a book about the man imprisoned for the grisly slaying of two teenage boys fifty years ago. But for Michael, the Deviant Killer isn’t just his subject, but an obsession—one that changed the course of his childhood. THE DEVIANT returns as Michael’s connection to these gruesome slaying begins to unravel.
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees #6
IDW Publishing
Script and Art – Patrick Horvath
Letters – Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees #6 (Link)
At the end of this issue, someone will die; There’s no way to avoid it, so we simply won’t try; A horrific plan drives the fate of our bear; And unspeakable actions will give quite a scare; Join us now, as we finally lift the veil-As this, my friends, is the end of our tale!
