Now on with the comics…
Weird Work
Issue 1
Image Comics
Script – Jordan Thomas
Art – Shaky Kane
Buy digitally on Comixology – Weird Work #1 (Link)
MINISERIES PREMIERE
Legendary British artist SHAKY KANE (THE BULLETPROOF COFFIN) and writer JORDAN THOMAS (Frank At Home On The Farm) are your guides through the corrupt, seedy streets of Stellar City in their new MINISERIES! The hard-boiled noir of LA Confidential mixes with the bright, alien-filled worlds of Futurama in this crime epic. Following months of gang shootings, Detective Ovra Sawce is paired with a new partner on a triple homicide. But what were a billionaire’s assistant, a hood-turned-cult leader and Sawce’s former partner doing in that warehouse?
Weird Work first appeared a few years back at Burnt Barn Comics, via a Kickstarter campaign, but now Image are bringing Thomas’ and Kane’s series to a wider audience with this new four issue miniseries. I’ve been a huge fan of Shaky’s art for many years and I’m looking forward to more off-kilter hard-boiled future detective stories.
I Hate This Place
Issue 10
Image Comics
Script – Kyle Starks
Art – Artyom Topilin
Colours -Lee Loughridge
Buy digitally on Comixology – I Hate This Place #10 (Link)
SERIES FINALE
BURST: “This continues to be a must-read horror series.” -Sequential Planet
Witness the thrilling, action-packed final issue of I HATE THIS PLACE to see if it concludes with the literal end of the world and massive amounts of death…or a “happy” ending for our beloved heroines.
(If we’re being honest, it could really go either way.)
I’ve really loved this series, and admittedly I was initially attracted by the explicit variant cover, but this has grown to be a wonderful, horrific book, grounded by two hugely likeable central characters. Part of me wants the story to end on it’s own terms but I wouldn’t be adverse to Trudy and Gabby returning at some point in the future.
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 5
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Angel Unzueta
Colours – Marissa Louise
Buy digitally on Comixology – Star Trek: Defiant #5 (Link)
Captain Worf struggles to maintain order among the Defiant’s crew with the addition of two new reluctant recruits causing all kinds of friction on board the stolen vessel. And with Klingon adrenaline surging through the Red Path’s veins, the need to find—and stop—Kahless has never seemed so dire.
The road to Day of Blood continues as things get tough for Captain Worf.
Clobberin’ Time
Issue 5
Marvel Comics
Script and Art -Steve Skroce
Colours – Bryan Valenza
Letters – Joe Sabino
Buy digitally on Comixology – Clobberin’ Time #5 (Link)
OGDU FRAIZE’s plan is almost complete, he has reverse engineered every item of power across the Marvel Universe’s timestream to create the PSYCHOPOMP machine, a device that will steal the creation energy of the nascent GALACTUS and the SENTIENCE of the UNIVERSE at the moment of the BIG BANG. The THING, DOCTOR DOOM and TUVAH TU are an unwilling audience to the universe’s re-making. That is, unless they can get free…
We’re at the end of this fabulous little series. Skroce has done sterling work with Mr Grimm and although the chances of this book continuing are slim, I hope Marvel are savvy enough to allow him to pay with more characters.
X-Men
Issue 24
Marvel Comics
Script – Gerry Duggan
Art – Joshua Cassara
Colours – Frank Martin
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men #24 (Link)
ONCE AN X-MAN…

On the radar some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Fantastic Four #9
Marvel Comics
Script – Ryan North
Art – Ivan Fiorelli
Colours – Jesus Aburtov
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally from Comixology – Fantastic Four #9 (Link)

We’ll all find out together in this Alicia-narrated issue! Plus: A meditation on the nature of art itself! And cool fights too!

The Crime is Collecting Figures, the sentence is DEATH
You cannot kill what doesss not live – but you can put it on your shelf! A six-inch articulated action figure of Judge Death is coming in 2024 from Hiya Toys.
The undead superfiend will be the second in the new line of six-inch articulated figures based on the world of Judge Dredd, from the pages of the bestselling comic British comic, 2000 AD.
Following the announcement of a 1/12 scale Judge Dredd figure, and their acclaimed 1/18 four-inch range of articulated figures based on classic Judge Dredd characters, the HIYA EXQUISITE SUPER Series 1/12 Scale Six Inch Judge Death will retail at $89.99 (USD).

Judge Death and his fellow Dark Judges are Judge Dredd and Anderson’s greatest nemeses, undead zombie Judges hellbent on extinguishing all life!
An Iconic Design
This figure is based on the iconic character design and art by co-creator Brian Bolland, as well as the work of artists Cliff Robinson and Garry Leach.
These hyper-detailed figures feature all-new accessories and materials, including interchangeable heads and hands, and fabric clothing. With 18 points of articulation, he comes with a host of extras, including five pairs of alternate hands, three alternate faces, two alternate necks, a replacement head, a sinister hourglass, a skull, a human heart, two dimension jump globes and a trail of ectoplasm from when Death is in his ‘spirit’ form.
Retailing at $89.99 (USD), pre-order for the Judge Death 1/12 scale figure launches on 30 June, with figures expected to reach retailers in the last quarter of 2023.
