The Geeky Brummie Pull List with 2000AD Prog 2371
This week, our Pull List yet again features a total of 10 new comics, this is getting to be a habit. Apologies also for the slight delay in this post appearing, but our Comic of the Week, 2000AD Prog 2371 from Rebellion, was embargoed until noon today. The other 7 comic on the main pull list come from DC Comics, IDW Publishing and Marvel Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes only 2 new comics both from Image Comics. No MEANWHILE… this week, sorry folks.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…

The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic returns with another action packed edition!
In celebration of 47 years of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, this week’s prog delivers a stunning experience. The cover, masterfully crafted by Cliff Robinson and Dylan Teague, sets the tone for what lies within. All the stories within are continuing, so it”s not an ideal jumping on issue, but they represent the best of the trademark 2000AD blend of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
The stand out story is Judge Dredd, which features a truly shocking double page spread, that is destined to rock Dredd’s world to its very core. Henry Flint is my favourite contemporary Dredd artist and his work here is absolutely stunning.
I really should feature 2000AD more, but I binge read it digitally these days so I’m usually a few week behind, but I made sure I caught up in honour of the anniversary. If you’re a British comic fan you should be reading 2000AD, as even after 47 years it is still fun and exciting. Zarjaz!
Power Girl
Issue 6
DC Comics
Script – Leah Williams
Art – Marguerite Sauvage
Letters – Becca Carey
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Power Girl #6 (Link)
GUEST-STARRING SUPERGIRL! The citizens of Metropolis are missing! Looking for an escape, many have fallen victim to Avalon, a new street drug that transports you to a simpler era…the Medieval Times! And turns out that it’s not just a trip you take in your mind, people are being physically transported to this magical plane too! Looks like a job for Power Girl and her new bff, Supergirl?!
Power Girl takes a wild detour into a fantasy, as she teams up with Supergirl to tackle a new drug sweeping Metropolis. Leah Williams is weaving a complex and captivating new world for Kara, while Marguerite Sauvage returns to bring this magical world to life. This is a super fun series and having Sauvage back makes this a must buy issue.
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 12
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Angel Unzueta
Colours – Marissa Louise
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Star Trek: Defiant #12 (Link)
Original Star Trek: Defiant writer-artist duo Christopher Cantwell and Ángel Unzueta delve into the sci-fi horror genre in arc three of the fan-favorite series! Eager to move past the unofficial bounty-hunting mission assigned to them by Starfleet, disgraced former ambassador and Starfleet legend, Worf, and his rogue crew make way for Starbase 99, a run-down remnant of the Dominion War, to complete their fugitive drop-off. The clandestine assignment has left them disillusioned with Starfleet and with one another, but a surprise awaits the Defiant crew, threatening to tear the crew apart even further-literally.
Cantwell and Unzueta reunite to kick off the third arc of this series. If you’re a Star Trek fan who craves suspense, character development, and unexpected twist, then this series will not disappoint. The IDW Star Trek line, really is firing on all cylinders right now, and you should definitely jump on board as soon as you can.
Godzilla: War for Humanity
Issue 4
IDW Publishing
Script – Andrew MacLean
Art – Jake Smith
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Godzilla: War for Humanity #4 (Link)
It’s an all-out kaiju brawl! Godzilla and Mothra must hold out against an army of monsters under the influence of Zoospora! Meanwhile, things heat up between the kaiju task force as Samantha confronts her mother about holding Minilla’s fate in the balance!
This series is an absolute blast. Maclean has been writing a gripping narrative, capturing the sheer scale of the battle whilst delving into the emotional turmoil faced by both humans and kaiju. All of this is brilliantly supported by Jake Smith’s artwork which brings these iconic monsters to life, their primal fury leaping off the pages in vibrant colour. Unmissable.
Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures
Issue 2
IDW Publishing
Script – David M. Booher
Art – George Kambadais
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #2 (Link)
Bobby is missing! After crash-landing in the middle of a pirate war on the Sword Coast, the party has one fewer member…and one more? Bobby and Sheila have been clashing over Bobby’s increasingly, well, barbaric behavior, and it appears Bobby has now run away. With Dungeon Master’s health deteriorating and the quest to find a cure further out of reach, they get help from a surprising ally. Oh, did we mention there’s a sea monster? Because there’s definitely a sea monster.Continuing the all-new adventures based on the classic cartoon, with writer David Booher (Canto, Specs) and George Kambadais (Gargoyles), the same team that brought you last year’s acclaimed Saturday Morning Adventures miniseries!
The first run of this series was fun but slight, and whilst the run doesn’t seem to be changing that much, I’m enjoying the shift of action to the high seas. Booher and Kambadais truly capture the feel of the original animated cartoon and I’m loving seeing more of these characters and their world.
Dead X-Men
Issue 2
Marvel Comics
Script – Steve Foxe
Art – Bernard Chang, Peter Nguyen and Guillermo Sanna
Colours – Frank Martin
Letters – Cory Petit
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Dead X-Men #2 (Link)
THE IMPOSSIBLE TEAM ON AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST! The Dead X-Men leap across time and space in a last-ditch effort to prevent catastrophe, but they’re not the only ones breaking through the fabric of reality! As these five mutants go places no one has gone before, a cloaked figure stalks them from the shadows…and nothing will survive if she reaches her goal!
This is basically Exiles, and I’m totally here for it. Having died at the Hellfire Gala and knowing resurrection is off the table, the book feels like characters really are putting their lives on the line for what they believe in, something we’ve not had in the X-books for a long time. With the whole Krakoa era ending, could permanent death in these pages really be permanent? I hope not, as I really love these folks.
The Immortal Thor
Issue 7
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Martín Cóccolo
Colours – Matt Wilson
Letters – Joe Sabino
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Immortal Thor #7 (Link)
THE TRIALS OF UTGARD! Young Thor faced the tricks of the Utgard-Loki, with all that lived at stake—in a tale twice-told and now told again. Yet the teller was the Skald of Realms, in their aspect as Thor’s enemy. And thus, the tale could twist upon itself—and if Thor faltered, it could make a new end. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR…and the story may yet destroy us all.
LEGACY #768
This run of Thor really does feel epic. Delving deeper into the myths and legends of old, this really ties the Asgardians back to their magical heritage. Ewing is a master of this kind of fantasy narrative and Coccolo is rendering grandeur of that world which elevates it all to another level. This is what you call a saga and is most definitely a most worthy addition to the adventures of Thor.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 44
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – John Romita Jr. and Scott Hanna
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Amazing Spider-Man #44 (Link)
GANG WAR CONCLUSION! Madame Masque makes the power move she’s been waiting to make her entire life. This is not going to go the way you think it will!
LEGACY #938
As Gang War concludes, where will the players end up. Can Madam Masque upend all we know about balance of power in New York? Hopefully this will shake up Spidey’s world enough to make the issue going forward exciting.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:
